We started the lesson with page 3 of the genetics warm ups. Then we watched Life Science Genetics: (schneiderdf, Student) and recorded notes using Part 2 of your  Modern genetics videos and debate packet. Then you discussed Part 3 of the packet with your partner and turned in your responses in class.

For periods 3, your objective was to debate the pros and cons of using the principles of genetic in modern science and industry to improve the quality of agricultural products and life. We started the lesson with page 3 of the genetics warm ups. Then you found a partner to discuss the following images as intriguing or disturbing: GMO images. Then we watched: and talked about where to draw the line with genetic experimentation. Then you worked with a partner to complete part 1 of the Modern genetics videos and debate which you turned in.

For 5th period, your objective was to debate the pros and cons of using the principles of genetic in modern science and industry to improve the quality of agricultural products and life. We started the lesson with page 3 of the genetics warm ups. Then you worked with a partner to complete part 1 of the Modern genetics videos and debate.  Then we watched Life Science Genetics: (schneiderdf, Student) and recorded notes using Part 2 of your Modern genetics videos and debate packet.

For period 6, your objective was to research the modern genetic techniques used to improve food production and medical advances. We started the lesson off with pp 1.3. Then you used the Science Explorer: Cells and Heredity to complete human genetic disorders and advances in genetics which we will finish tomorrow.

2.20.13 Gentically Modified Food and Alias Offspring

Today you received your grade sheet with highlighted missing assignments. All missing and or corrected work is due by this Friday!

You should also be working on the 2013 genetic review  which is due on Friday, March 1.

For periods 1 and 5, your objective was to debate the pros and cons of using the principles of genetic in modern science and industry to improve the quality of agricultural products and life. We started the lesson off with mendels genetics warm up. Then you found a partner to dicuss the following images as intriguing or disturbing: GMO images. Then we watched: and talked about where to draw the line with genetic experimentation. 5th period had a fabulous discussion about where to draw the line with gentically engineered organisms. First period worked with a partner to complete part 1 of the Modern genetics videos and debate which you turned in.

For period 3,  your objective was to debate the pros and cons of using the principles of genetic in modern science and industry to improve medical technology. We started the lesson off with mendels genetics warm up. Then we discussed what you know and what you want to know about modern genetics. Then you got into groups to research the pros and cons of genetic testing using Modern Genetic Science Articles. Your homework is to finish the research, complete the short answer and answer the BCR:

Based on what you have read, where do you stand? Do you support genetic testing for humans? Why or why not? Be specific and use details from the text to support your answer. This is due on Friday!

For period 6, your objective was to use Mendelian genetics to predict the offspring for their alias and the counseled couple using punnett squares and pedigrees. We started the lesson off with pp 1.2. We then moved onto creating your pedigree charts for you and your partner as well as your counseled couple (page three and four of your packet) either Research Capture Sheet for H and CF 6th or Research Capture Sheet for A and SC 6th. Then you worked with your partner to determine the genotype and phenotype for your child for widows peak and blood type using MOD SR Creating Offspring and the paper chromosomes.

2.19.13 Microarray and Pedigree Practice

Good morning, I hope you had a nice long weekend. Please remember that this Friday is the last day to turn in any missing or corrected work.

All classes: You received the 2013 genetic review  in class today. This study guide will be checked for completion on MArch 1st and your test will be March 4. You may take your folder home to help you if you need it.

For periods 1, 3 and 5 your objective was to use a microarray technique to determine the genotype for the genetic disorder (Huntington’s, sickle cell, cystic fibrosis or achondroplasia) of their offspring. We started the lesson off with page 2 of the genetics warm ups. Then you joined your partner to determine if your offspring will inherit the disease from your alias in I SR Microarray Lab modified. If you did not finish the analysis questions they are homework.

For period 6, your objective was to use Mendelian genetics to predict the offspring for their alias and the counseled couple using punnett squares and pedigrees. We started the lesson off with pedigree practice warm up using the Drag and Drop Pedigree website. We then finished up the movie Anastasia.
