2.25.13 Transgenic Food and Microarray

Hello!

Please make sure you are working on your 2013 genetic review which is due this Friday as your test is next Monday.

For periods 1 and 5 please report to the media center tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday to type up your written report for the genetics project. See the Genetics Project tab above for all handouts, links and templates.

For period 6, please report to room 216 tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday to type up your written report for the genetics project. See the Genetics Project tab above for all handouts, links and templates.

Period 3 you will be in room 216 next week to type up your reports.

For period 1, your objective was to debate the pros and cons of using the principles of genetic in modern science and industry to improve the quality of agricultural products and life. We started the lesson off with page 5 of the genetics warm ups. Then we watched a segment from NOVA: Frontline Harvest of Fear on transgenic salmon: and Then you worked with a partner to read through the two articles in the Modern genetics videos and debate for part 4 and completed the graphic organizer for the section. We will come back to this after the test next week.

Then you discussed Part 3 of the packet with your partner and turned in your responses in class.

For period 6, your objective was to use a microarray technique to determine the genotype for the genetic disorder (Huntington’s, sickle cell, cystic fibrosis or achondroplasia) of their offspring. We started the lesson off with page 5 of the genetics warm ups. Then you joined your partner to determine if your offspring will inherit the disease from your alias in I SR Microarray Lab modified.
