9.30.11 Describing Matter from Text

Good evening,

For 2nd and 4th periods: What I had planned for you today was to complete Describing Matter Reading Guide using Describing Matter from Text, but I found the stack of work on the table that was not given out, so I’m not sure what happened in class today :(. No worries, we’ll catch up on Monday! I did get the fish for our hydroponic systems, unfortunately our seedlings may need a transplant on Monday.

For 6th period, you were working on the midterm study guide 7th for the test Tuesday. Here’s the midterm study guide 7th answer key.

If you have time this weekend, stop by the Solar decathlon. It was fantastic, take a look at some of the homes:

9.28.11 Hydroponic System

Good evening. For 2nd and 4th periods, today’s objective was to transport the seedlings into a new media to start the hydroponics system. We started the lesson with most missed questions from the test, then created groups and transplanted the seedlings into 2 samples. We placed one sample in water with Miracle-Grow and the other in the tank with the fish (to be bought :)). There is no homework.

For 6th period, our objective was to model how organisms grow and repair. We started with levels summary. Then illustrated mitosis on Cell Division1. There is no homework, but your summative test will be Tuesday, October 4th, you will get this midterm study guide 7th in class.

After school today, I went to NIST for a “science afternoon” to learn about (and play with) scanning electron microscopes (SEM).This machine scans with the precision of 3 electrons as the point using Helium. Very cool!

9.27.11 Hydroponics Test Part 1

Reminders: Tomorrow is a half day. All missing work needs to be turned in by tomorrow for full credit.

For 2nd and 4th periods: Today’s objective was to explain how organisms grow, repair, and are organized. We started the lesson going over questions before the test. After the test, we finished up the Cell Division summary using cell cycle from text. Tonight’s homework is to finish any missing assignments.

For 6th period, our objectives was to model how organisms grow and repair. We started the lesson with organization warm up. Then we watched Tim and Moby explain Mitosis and Twilight Mitosis. Then we describe cell cycle on Cell Division1 while watching cell cycle animation. Tonight’s homework is to complete any missing assignments.

9.26.11 Study Guide and Finish Mitosis

For 2nd and 4th periods:

Today’s objective was to describe how organisms grow, develop, and repair. We started with the organization warm up to remind ourselves how organisms are organized. Then we went over the midterm study guide 7th answer key for the summative test tomorrow. Then we finished up Cell Division using cell cycle from text. Tonight’s homework is to study for the test tomorrow. Remember all missing work is due by Wednesday!

For 6th period:

Today’s objective was to describe and give examples of the levels of organization in a multi-cellular organism. We started the lesson with a review with the photosynthesis warm up. Then we started recording Levels of organization notes from flip. Your summative test is next Monday, October 13th.

Falling Satellite?! What happened and where is it?!?

9.23.11 Mitosis (Cell Division)

For 2nd and 4th period:

Happy Friday! Today’s objective was to describe how organisms grow and develop. We started the lesson with the most missed quiz questions. You will earn up to 4 points towards your quiz grade from yesterday with this assignment. Then we watched Tima and Moby explain Mitosis and then Bella and Edward from Twilight Science Class . Next we started Cell Division while watching and recording the steps on Mitosis Animation. Your homework is to work on the study guide for your test Tuesday.

9.22.11 Finish Levels of Organization

For 2nd and 4th Periods:

Our objective for today was to describe and give examples of the
levels of organization in a multi-cellular organism. We started of with the cell parts quiz. Then we finished up on the Levels of organization notes from flip . Your homework is Cells R Us and to start themidterm study guide 7th. Your test will be September 27th.
For 6th period:

Our objective was investigate the process photosynthesis that enables plants to use energy from light to make food molecules by using light, water and carbon dioxide. We started of with the cell parts quiz. Then we went into the Photosynthesis Notes from Flip. Your test will be September 30th.
